Expeller pressing is the main process for the extraction of oil from canola seeds. Chemical or solvent extraction using hexane is also used to extract the residual oil from the pressed cake. Before flaking of the seeds, they need to be softened (conditioned) by heating with steam to prevent the seeds from shattering during flaking.
