Few activated sludge treatment plants use DAF units in combination with rotary sludge thickeners. One mill in Canada uses coil filters and V-presses to dewater primary sludge (Kenny et al. 1997 ). After pre-dewatering of the primary sludge, the secondary clarifier sludge and pre-dewatered primary sludge are mixed in a paddle mixer and then discharged for final dewatering on screw presses.
